Both Ridgewood High School and Hudson Elementary School have new rules when it comes to what students can wear.

  • At Hudson Elem. students are asked to wear red or blue tops, blue or khaki bottoms
  • Ridgewood High students have more options
  • Both schools are suggesting students adhere to the dresscode as soon as possible

At Ridgewood High, students must wear shirts that have a crew neck or are a polo/button-up style. Crew neck shirts must be solid color, while polo shirts and button downs can be striped or plaid.

Students can wear pants, jeans and capris that are khaki, blue, black, or gray with no holes, frays, or tears.

Skirts are acceptable, too, as long as they hit the top of the knee and are khaki, blue, black or gray. Dresses must have sleeves and a crew neck and can be solid color or stripes. For more details, check out the complete dress code.

The school hopes these changes increase student engagement and encourage better behavior.

Not all parents see it that way, though.

“I don’t see how this is going to encourage any school support or any school spirit when you’re singled out as the only high school in the county that’s bad enough you need a dress code,” said Rhonda Holloway, whose son attends Ridgewood High.

Ridgewood High students have until Oct. 18 to comply with the dress code, but are encouraged to start following the new rules when the school year starts Aug. 15.

Hudson Elementary School has adopted school uniforms. Students must wear red or blue tops and blue or khaki bottoms.

Hudson Elementary students are expected to come dressed in the new uniform when school starts, but the school has an opt-out clause for families who can’t afford new clothes. The school is also working to provide inexpensive uniforms or free uniforms for those children who need it.
