Polk County firefighters found a woman dead inside a double wide trailer Wednesday morning at 4590 Lido Avenue in Lake Wales.

  • Woman killed in house fire
  • 3 dogs rescued, 1 died
  • One person injured trying to help

Firefighters were dispatched to the house fire around 4:07 a.m.

A friend, Raymond Clanton, said the woman was having some health issues.

"She survived on oxygen," he said. "Three weeks ago she went to the hospital for burns. And she wouldn't listen. She just kept smoking."

Clanton said the woman's boyfriend was injured rescuing three of the couple's dogs. He was transported to Lake Wales Hospital, where he is being treated and expected to survive. A fourth dog was found dead in the home.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said next of kin for the woman has not been notified yet. The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
