  • Patients transported to other hospitals
  • Multiple fire crews respond to scene

The fire, which broke out in the generator room just after 6 p.m., knocked out power Wednesday night to most of Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson.

The situation forced the evacuation of 209 patients, who were safely moved to other medical facilities. There were no injuries.

According to a hospital official, the facility's emergency back-up power is not up yet so the target to reopen and accept patients back is Monday.

Multiple crews from across the Bay area responded to the scene. The fire was quickly put out.

Officials said they believe a lightning strike hit the roof that carried an electrical line to the facility line that went to the generators, forcing a shut down.

Hospital engineers and Withlalochee electric officials worked throughout the night to restore power.

Hospital officials said there has been no indication when the patients would be brought back to the hospital.

All surgical procedures scheduled for today at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson have been canceled.
