Authorities investigated a pair of fatal crashes in Tampa on Monday morning, one of which ended in an arrest.

Carlos Yordanis Fleitas-Spiedad, 36, was arrested after a crash that killed a man who just bought a retirement home in Florida with his wife, Hillsborough County deputies said. The couple were on the way to the airport to fly home to get ready to move, deputies said.

The crash happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of Kelly Road and Memorial Highway.

According to deputies, 54-year-old Jeffrey Mandore was traveling south in a 2007 Toyota Corolla on Kelly Road, attempting to turn left onto Memorial Highway.

Yordanis Fleitas-Spiedad, of Tampa, was driving a 2001 Ford van westbound on Memorial Highway and failed to stop at the red light at Kelly Road, according to deputies. The Ford van then struck the front of the Toyota, deputies said.

Mandore was pronounced dead at the scene, and his wife, Linda, 54, was taken to a hospital, where she was listed in serious condition.

After the crash, deputies said Fleitas fled the scene on foot and but was later apprehended at his home. Fleitas submitted to a blood draw and had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his mouth, deputies said.

Deputies said Fleitas was driving on a suspended license with knowledge and had an outstanding warrant for DUI from a previous DUI arrest on May 21, 2016. Fleitas was to be taken to the Hillsborough County Orient Road Jail after being medically cleared for minor injuries at a hospital.

The second fatality happened at Linebaugh Avenue and Sheldon Road at 5:45 a.m.

Deputies said a Peterbilt fuel truck traveling westbound on Linebaugh hit the front of a Nissan and rolled onto its side on top of the vehicle. The driver of the Nissan died at the scene.

The driver's name hasn't been released. The crash is still under investigation, but deputies said the driver of the truck failed to stop at a red light on Linebaugh. No charges have been filed pending further investigation, according to deputies.
