A $20,000 reward is being offered to anyone who can help solve the murder of Tammy Jo Alexander.

  • Tammy Jo Alexander went missing from Brooksville in the late 1970s
  • Authorities were never informed by the family
  • Her body was found in a NY cornfield in 1979

Authorities believe she went missing from Brooksville sometime between 1977 and 1979. She was a student at Hernando High School, and would have been around 16 years old.

For some reason, deputies say Alexander’s family never reported her missing. A former classmate and friend did so in 2014.

Her case had been cold for more than 30 years before investigators were even made aware it existed. In 2015 authorities finally caught up with the family, who confirmed they hadn't seen Alexander in decades.

According to reports, the body of a young woman in New York had been found in a cornfield in 1979. The description matched Alexander.

A positive ID was confirmed following DNA testing. Investigators say the cause of death was undoubtedly homicide.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective B. Schneider at the Livingston County Sheriff's Office at (585) 247-7100 or Detective George Loydgren at the Hernando County Sheriffs (352) 754-6830.
