Publix Super Markets have issued a 'voluntary recall' for their apple coffee cakes.

The house-made bakery item is a popular one, and Publix leadership is concerned that there could be possible metal flakes in a recent batch.

  • Customers can return the cakes for a full refund to their local store

"As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from store shelves,” said Maria Brous, Publix media and community relations director. "To date, there have been no reported cases of illness or injury."

She added that shoppers who have purchased the coffee cakes may return the product to their local store for a full refund.

The recall impacts the entire Tampa Bay area -- including Citrus, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas and Polk counties.
