The City of Clearwater wants to hear from residents about the future of downtown.

City officials are hosting a workshop at 6:30 p.m. Monday to hear ideas about developing the downtown area. This is the second round of community workshops aimed at a development plan for downtown.

The city launched the Imagine Clearwater Downtown Waterfront master plan process earlier this month. The idea is to include residents in the planning process.

Clearwater resident Gerry Chickeletti has attended all of the workshops and said he likes the ideas he has heard so far.

"I want to see this area developed," Chickeletti said. "I think we have a lot of promise, a lot of views, and I think the people will come here, if you bring in retail, and you bring in stores, and you bring in bars, and you bring in restaurants.

"We want a wading area so you can sit here and put your feet in the water. We also have more athletics for children and adults, because we only have the tennis court over there, so we were asking them for more athletics and gardens."

City officials said those are exactly the ideas they are looking for. Officials added they want to improve downtown's connection with the beaches while seeing more people spend time on the mainland side of the bridge.

Monday night's workshop will be held at the downtown Clearwater main library at 100 N. Osceola Ave.

Another workshop is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Holiday Inn Express at the Intersection of Gulf to Bay and U.S. 19.
