A 9-year-old boy was killed Thursday on Interstate 75 in a six-vehicle crash in Hernando County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the northbound chain-reaction crash happened about 3:30 p.m. on I-75 at the 302 mile marker. 

Logan Andrew Scherer, of Riverview, was killed when a 2012 Hyundai Genesis driven by Gregory M. Andriotis, 33, of Deltona hit the back of the 2016 Mazda CX5 Scherer was riding in. 

Jordan Michael Scherer, 37; Brooke Nichole Scherer, 35; and Mallory Harper Scherer, 5, all of Riverview, were all seriously injured. 

Andriotis also suffered serious injuries. 

The injured were flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. 

Troopers said traffic was slowed on I-75 due to an earlier crash when the chain-reaction fatal crash happened. There were four other cars

The crash remains under investigation.
