Detectives in Pasco County on Wednesday arrested a former Pasco detention deputy for striking a confined inmate without provocation.

Officials said Jorge Febus, 41, was on duty in the holding area of the west courthouse in New Port Richey when the incident occurred on Sept. 14. Prior to the incident, the inmate reportedly kicked and punched the holding cell door in the facility.

Febus reportedly then struck the inmate on the side of the head while the inmate was restrained. Two other deputies who were present and saw the incident confirmed Febus struck the inmate without provocation.

The inmate was not injured and did not require medical attention.

Febus was charged with battery by a secure facility employee on a confined person and was terminated.
