On September 28, Polk County Public Schools will take part in the statewide observance of Dads Take Your Child to School Day. The event is an initiative from the Florida Department of Education and provides an opportunity for dads or other male role models to get more involved and engaged in their children’s education.

More than 30 years of research supports the belief that a positive relationship endures between increased family engagement and student academic success. Additional research suggests that when fathers are actively involved in their child’s education, students:

Perform better academically; Have fewer discipline problems; and become more responsible adults.

Public schools throughout Polk County are inviting fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, foster fathers, mentors and other significant role models to take their children to school on September 28. Mothers and other family members are welcome to participate, as we know they play a vital role in their children’s education, too.

Make a difference by taking the Dads Take Your Child to School Day Pledge and spread the word by posting photos of you and your child on Dads Take Your Child to School Day utilizing the hashtags #PolkDadsAtSchoolDay and #FLDadsAtSchoolDay.
