As the floodwaters receded from Crystal River, they left a stark picture of the damage they inflicted on local businesses, including "The Wine Shop" on N. Citrus Avenue.

  • Shop in 20 inches of water
  • Owner, customers spent Saturday vacuuming water
  • Products in store not damaged

Coleen Brady, owner of "The Wine Shop," for the past five years, said she's never seen anything like Hurricane Hermine.

"It was about 20 inches of water," Brady said. "So we've lost our computers, we've lost our point of sale."

Her carpets were soaked. Water soaked her records and floated them around the store.

"When we opened the front door, we had a fish right there," Brady said.

Jerry Flanders, a friend and customer of Brady and her shop, spent his Saturday vacuuming water off the floor and helping Brady clean up.

"Instead of wine therapy, now it's clean up," said Flanders. "As bad as it is, it certainly could've been a lot worse."

Brady has roughly 3,000 bottles of wine. Each one is safe.

"Our wine is fine," she said, "but just about everything else we have to deal with."

Brady hopes to fully reopen the wine shop in about two weeks.
