No officers were injured.

According to Tampa Police Spokesman Steve Hegarty, the shooting happened at 1022 East 25th Avenue just before 11 a.m.

Authorities said three officers responded to a burglary call and found the suspect, Joey Kennedy, inside of the home when they arrived.

Kennedy tossed a flaming accelerant on a K9 and the K9 officer. Fearing for his life, the officer opened fire and hit the suspect, according to the report.

The officer was able to extinguish the flames, but K9 Indo received burns on the head.

Kennedy was taken to a local hospital with what officials say appear to be non-life threatening injuries.

Hegarty said the suspect is known to police. Joey Kennedy, 40, has multiple warrants out for his arrest on violation of probation.
