Authorities said a man confessed to killing a former college professor after he made sexual advances toward him.

According to our partners at the Bradenton Herald, deputies said Barry Baer, 20, told detectives on Friday that Hollant Adrien, 56, was an acquaintance who had picked him up and driven him somewhere.

Baer claimed Adrien started making sexual advances, at which point he pulled out a knife he carried for protection and stabbed the man in the neck, according to the report.

Detectives said Baer and Adrien struggled outside the car before Baer hit Adrien in the head with a hammer at least 40 times. Baer then robbed the victim, authorities said.

Adrien was a former French professor and had taught at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.

His body was found around 6 a.m. on January 11 in the intersection of 58th Ave. East and 21st Street East.

Baer was arrested Wednesday on unrelated charges while he was driving around in Adrien's car.

He was charged with murder on Saturday in connection with Adrien's death.
