This week, President-elect Donald Trump will become our country's 45th president, but he’s starting his transition of power with a 44 percent approval rating.

This rating was released in a recent Gallup poll, which said his rating is historically lower than the past three presidents.

Political science expert Michael Bitzer said Trump's approval rating could reflect his unconventional candidacy.

"It really does raise some questions and concerns about whether Donald Trump can hit the ground running and get a lot of his initiatives done if the approval rating is already sinking below 45 percent,” said Bitzer, of Catawba College.

Republicans' rating of Trump's transition has remained positive with 87 percent approving.

In a tweet on Tuesday morning, the president-elect said, "The same people who did the phony election polls, and were so wrong, are now doing approval rating polls. They are rigged just like before."
