  • He ran massive drug trafficking operation that laundered billions of dollars

Guzman was extradited by Mexico yesterday and will appear in Brooklyn Federal Court.

He has been charged in six separate indictments throughout the United States.

Guzman is accused of leading the Sinaloa drug cartel.

Prosecutors say the cartel is a massive drug trafficking operation that laundered billions of dollars and carried out murders and kidnappings.

El Chapo has twice escaped from maximum security Mexican prisons.

The second time, he climbed into a hole in the floor of his cell shower and escaped through an elaborate tunnel.

His lawyers had been fighting extradition since he was recaptured a year ago.

If convicted, he could face life in an American prison.
