A 52-year-old man died a day after being hit by a semi-truck.

Officials said Gerald Byrd, 52, was hit by a semi-truck on US Hwy 98 around 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Byrd was attempting to cross Hwy 98 near Clubhouse Road in Lakeland when he walked into the path of a semi.
The driver of the semi-truck, Eliecer Piedra, 46, was unable to avoid striking Byrd.
Officials said Piedra immediately stopped and rendered aid after calling 911.
Byrd's wife told officials that he was at Linkster's Bay Tuesday night and spoke to her around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday saying that he was going to walk home.
Byrd was taken to LRHMC in extremely critical condition. He passed away on Thursday from his injuries.
