A Tarpon Springs tech company aiming to give back to the community donated technology solutions to an area nonprofit in the form of "new" computers.

  • TekPrepper Solutions donated five "nearly brand-new" computers
  • The Shepherd Center provides clothes, food, and other necessities to the area's impoverished
  • Donated computers will be used for helping those in need find jobs, complete GEDs

On Friday, staff from TekPrepper Solutions donated five "nearly brand-new" computers to The Shepherd Center, located at 304 S. Pinellas Avenue.

The nonprofit usually collects things like food, clothing, and furniture, but they welcomed the gift of technology.

"We're very, very grateful," said Ada Del Gais, the Center's Executive Director. "I can’t even tell you how grateful I am."

According to Del Gais, the Shepherd Center helps more than 70,000 people a year. The computers will be used in their resource center.

"We're trying so very hard to help this community," said Del Gais. "This community is in such need. We have people who are homeless, homeless families."

TekPrepper Solutions CEO and owner James Greene is a Tarpon Springs native. When he heard about the Shepherd Center’s mission, he didn’t hesitate to help.

"My family definitely wasn't one of the rich families," said Greene. "Growing up, it was a little tough, a little struggle and everything we've done has been a combination of me and my brothers and sisters working together."

Del Gais told us the donated computers will help clients who can’t afford their own systems and need them to search for jobs, work toward their GEDs and find family.

"Any time I get the chance to help out the place I've grown up, is huge for me," Greene said.
