  • Man shot after shooting/threatening officers, crashing into business

The Plant City Police Department was called to a McDonald's on James L. Redman Parkway for reports of a large and hostile group of people.

When police arrived, a man fired at an officer before fleeing in a white four-door Sedan.

The officer pursued the vehicle onto Alexander Street heading towards the intersection of Reynolds Street.

Officials said the suspect vehicle attempted to turn eastbound on Reynolds Street but failed to negotiate the turn and traveled into a business plaza, crashing into a dental office.

After crashing into the business, a second officer arrived on scene and saw the suspect attempt to flee on foot.

Officials said the suspect pointed his gun at the officer. Fearing for his life, the officer fired shots at the suspect.

The suspect was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave.

The investigation is ongoing.
