The city of Clearwater launched the Pop-Up North Marina: A Community Streets Experience and Festival to study techniques to improve overall experience for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers.

"We want people to feel like they can actually walk and be safe and feel safe, it’s not just for cars.” Lawrence Young, Jr., the neighborhood coordinator for the city, said.

Volunteers painted a sidewalk extension, installed planters and benches and painted a new crosswalk.

"It’s going to add so much color it’s going to be amazing,” Local artist Beth Warmath, who painted turtles along the crosswalk, said. “But the best part is, is that everyone comes together to make this project, so it’s going to be amazing."

The project will test some of the City’s recommendations to help decide if more permanent changes should be made.

"The blue paint, planters with words like ‘faith’ and ‘love,’ you will see a turtle, these are types of things that make people happy and excited about their community,” Young said.
