  • A look back at Sunday's severe weather

Peck Wells was watching football in his family room during the storm when a large oak tree from the backyard tumbled through his roof of his home on east Hartshorn Lane. He was briefly trapped under the tree.

One of his three grandkids described the scene: "We were painting, and heard this big crash and then we saw the tree come through the roof – and then we were screaming, and then we like ran next to Papa to see if he was OK."

Wells was able to crawl out from under the tree, which destroyed the family room and crashed into part of the kitchen. Wells' wife also was in the home at the time of the crash. She was not hurt.

Wells' adult son and his girlfriend, along with their baby, were not at home when the tree fell.

Family members said they were just happy no one was hurt.

The Red Cross responded Sunday night to assist the family with arrangements for the next few days. The home will have to undergo extensive repairs.
