A 4-year-old boy was shot with a stolen gun Tuesday morning, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
The child was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and is in stable condition.

The shooting occurred at the Key Vista Apartments near the University of South Florida. The apartment manager said it was an accidental shooting. However, officials have not confirmed whether it was an accident.

Deputies said Akia Thomas, the boyfriend of the boy's mother, was home at the time of the incident.
Thomas has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, officials said. He has 24 previous felony charges and five previous felony convictions.
Officials said the victim has two other siblings, a 1- and 6-year-old.
The mother was taking one of the children to daycare when the 4-year-old was shot.
