According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the semi crashed onto the roadway below, causing it to spill its load of recycled debris and some fuel.
Troopers said the crash happened as semi driver Samuel Colon, 49, swerved to avoid hitting a car that had cut in front of the semi. The truck crashed into a barrier wall, went over and fell to the roadway below.
The crash closed both directions of Fowler Ave for a while and thwarted traffic in the area.
Authorities are able to open some lanes to traffic while crews cleaned up the roadway and rightened the truck.
Colon was taken to Florida Hospital in serious condition.
The Florida Highway Patrol is asking anyone with information about the initiating vehicle to contact them at (813) 631-4020.
