Tampa police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run traffic crash involving a pedestrian.

According to police, a pedestrian was killed in a crash in the westbound lanes of West Hillsborough Avenue between Anderson Road and Hoover Boulevard just before 3:30 a.m. A passerby called 911 to report a body in the middle of the road.

Police have not released details of the crash, only saying the vehicle did not stop. There were no witnesses to the crash. 

Officers searched the area for car parts and paint chips. 

The roadway was closed for about two hours before reopening to traffic. 

The crash remains under investigation and the identity of the person killed has not been released. 

The crash was the third pedestrian-involved crash on Hillsborough Avenue since September 1. They all remain open.
