People who endured long lines to get Department of Children and Families assistance on Saturday, probably couldn’t believe reports that those lines were virtually non-existent on Sunday.

A food assistance center has been set up in Lakeland for those seeking help after Hurricane Irma.

Those arriving at the center on Sunday were greeted by short lines and quick service.

Nancy Parkers was one of those in line for help Sunday.

“Today was one day where they had their act together,” she said.  “We go it, we got out. And we got a ride to the door form a fellow in a golf cart, and here we are and we’ve been here less than half an hour and we’re walking out with a nice benefit.”

DCF officials said tweaking the line and being able to get the right people in the right lines Sunday was helpful.

“We've had an opportunity to make those changes today and that may have sped the process up a little bit,” spokeswoman Kristi Gray said. “But for the most part, it was just the enormous amount of people that showed up yesterday for assistance.”

The R.P. Funding Center in Lakeland will be open Monday through Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for people still seeking assistance.
