A former Hillsborough County middle school teacher and soccer coach has been charged with molesting a teenage student, and investigators are worried there may be more victims.

  • Sonny Juarez, 29, a teacher's aide at time of incident
  • Same victim impregnated by caregiver in unrelated case
  • Deputies believe there may have been more victims

Sonny Juarez, 29, was arrested on Oct. 18 and accused of having had sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl several times in the back of a classroom at the Wimauma Academy, off of U.S. 301 in Wimauma. The charter school is run by the Redlands Christian Migrant Association.

Juarez was a teacher’s aide at the time of the allegations, believed to have taken place between November 2016 and March 2017. He held that job since 2006.

This school year, Juarez was promoted to middle school teacher at Leadership Academy, which shares the Wimauma Academy campus.

A spokesman for the Redlands Christian Migrant Association said Juarez was placed on leave during the investigation and was fired immediately after the arrest.

Investigators said they were tipped off about Juarez after the same victim was impregnated by a caregiver in an unrelated sexual battery case.

Deputies said there may be more victims at the elementary and middle schools. If you have any information, you’re asked to call the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office.
