A Port Charlotte man drowned at St. Pete Beach this weekend, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

Bret Alexander Rule, 34, was found unconscious in the Gulf water. Deputies were called at about 6:30 p.m.
Rule was found behind the Plaza Beach Motel.
He was taken to Palms of Pasadena Hospital, where he died.
Authorities said Rule had been acting incoherent before going into the water.
Deputies are still investigating.
