An argument turned deadly Monday afternoon in the Ruskin area. 

  • Altercation between Ruskin men turns fatal
  • Deputies: Angel Calix stabbed Derick Avila, who later died
  • Calix, charged with manslaughter, being sought

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the argument between two men escalated to punches and then a stabbing. The victim died in the driveway of a home and the suspect is now being sought. 

Detectives said the suspect, Angel Calix, 26, got into a verbal argument with the Derick Avila, 22, while in their kitchen at 1107 Windton Oak Drive.

Calix and Avila exchanged punches before Calix grabbed as many as three knives and tried to stab Avila in the neck and chest area. 

Then, according to deputies, Calix grabbed Avila by the shirt and stabbed him in the chest.  

Calix ran out of the house and left the scene while Avila tried to get help at a neighbor's home and was found in the driveway in a pool of blood. 

Avila was transported to South Bay Hospital with stab wounds. He was later pronounced dead. 

Calix, who has a criminal history dating back to 2013, is now wanted for manslaughter.
