Two local counties made the list for having deadly roads.

The survey, done by Stein Law in Miami, said a two-mile stretch of Cortez Road in Manatee County is one of the most dangerous roads in the state.

According to the study, there was an average of five deaths per mile on the road in just two years.

Residents said as northern residents escaping the cold weather make their way south, the problem will get worse.

"If you think it's bad now, wait four weeks and it'll be really bad," said driver Mike David.

The study said Cortez Road is the 10th deadliest road in Florida.

Cortez Road is surrounded by restaurants and department stores. Business owners say it's only a matter of time until they hear about another crash.

"Every day we see a wreck out here," said Chuck Mattingly, who has owned Mattingly Auto Service for 10 years. "It's constant."

Six roads in Pinellas County also made the list. All of them connect to U.S. 19.

The deadliest road in the state, according to the study, is a 3.8-mile stretch of Interstate 95 in Miami.
