A 45-year-old St. Petersburg man has been arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter in Tuesday morning's fatal I-275 crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol arrested Malo Derone Blackshear after the crash that killed a 27-year-old woman in a second vehicle.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the multi-vehicle crash happened just after 3:30 a.m. on southbound I-275 near 38th Avenue North.

According to Troopers, a 2007 Mercedes sedan being driven at a high rate of speed by Blackshear crashed into the back of a 2001 Hyundai sedan. The impact caused both vehicles to spin off the roadway and end up on opposite shoulders of the highway.

The female passenger in the Hyundai, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene. The 23-year-old driver of the Hyundai suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Blackshear suffered minor injuries but was not hospitalized.

The crash thwarted morning rush hour traffic in St. Petersburg, shutting down the southbound I-275 lanes for several hours. Traffic was directed off the interstate and onto US 19 for a period of time.

The roadway was reopened just after 9 a.m.
