A 3-year-old boy was bitten by a dog while trick-or-treating Tuesday night in St. Petersburg.

The incident happened just before 8 p.m. in the 10000 block of Shawnee Road in unincorporated St. Pete. 

According to deputies, the child, his parents and friends knocked on a door where no one was home. 

Authorities said the boy then "manipultaed" the door handle, causing it to open. A 40-lbs. mix breed dog came out and attacked the boy, biting him on the head, neck and face. 

The boy's father was able to get the dog off the boy. 

Paramedics responded and transported the child to All Children's Hospital for puncture wounds. Deputies said the injuries were non-life threatening. No one else was injured.

Pinellas County Animal Services was notified of the attack and they will conduct an independent investigation.

Deputies do not anticipate any criminal charges in this case.

An investigation is ongoing.
