About two months after hurricane Irma hit the bay area, a Hernando County woman has finally gotten her power back.

  • Woman received funds from FEMA, which paid for new power pole

During that time she stayed with her family in Hudson.

It's a sight Diane Kratschman wasn't sure she'd be able to see, light once again filling her home after Irma knocked down the power pole in her back yard.

"It was nice to finally have the inspection come in and go out and flip the switches on the box and go in and have everything turn on again. It was like finally life can go back to normal," Kratschman said.

Spectrum Bay News 9 first reported about Kratschman last month.

Trees fell in her yard, knocking over a power pole, and because it was on her property *she had to pay to replace it.

After our story aired, the Hernando County Office of Emergency Management helped Diane get the funding she needed from FEMA. The money paid for a new power pole, and even allowed her to replace her refrigerator.

But, things aren't completely back to normal. She still has a lot of debris in her yard and her house is still packed up from the storm.

"I planned for a hurricane thinking it might flood well now I have to unpack everything I packed and put everything away," Kratschman said.

She said her next big task is to get her house and the rest of her yard cleaned up and then she says she wants to take down this tree so she won't run into the same situation again.

Diane also said while she's thankful to have been able to stay with her kids and grandkids all those weeks, now she's so glad to be back in her own space.

"It's just been nice to come home and sit and talk to people you know that aren't three and five," she said.

Diane said she's lived at that home for only two years.
