The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating an armed robbery at Tyrone Square Mall Thanksgiving night. 

  • Woman shot at, robbed at Tyrone Square Mall
  • Man shot at woman inside car; broke window
  • Man stole purse from inside woman's vehicle; took off

Police said a 51-year-old woman was walking to her parked PT Cruiser in the mall parking lot and noticed a man following her. 

Police said she hurried to get into her car and locked her door. The man then fired one shot into her car, shattering her driver's side car window. 

Police said the suspect then reached in her car and grabbed her purse. He took off in a Saturn that was waiting for him. 

The robbery occurred around 9:30 p.m., police said. The woman was not injured. 

Officers and mall security guards were on the property and patrolling the area at the time. 

Police said the Saturn, which had been reported stolen a few days ago, was recovered near 9th Ave. S and 44th St. S. 

Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at 727-893-7780. 

Throughout the weekend, the police department will increase the number of police officers in all areas of the parking lot and inside the mall.

Hours after the robbery, management at the Tyrone Square Mall issued the following statement:

“Our primary concern is always for the safety and security of our customers and employees. This isolated incident is under investigation and we ask that you please contact the St. Petersburg Police Department public information officer at 727-893-7550 for additional information.
