  • Two deputy-involved shootings in Hillsborough Wed.
  • First shooting occurred in Riverview Wed. morning
  • Second shooting occurred in Tampa Wed. night

First deputy-involved shooting in Riverview

The first shooting occurred around 10 a.m. along Greenchop Place in Riverview. The sheriff's office received a call about a man seen with a gun, knocking on doors and ringing door bells in the neighborhood.

By the time deputies arrived, the man left the area in a van. A short time later officials said a deputy spotted the vehicle in a field behind the neighborhood. Inside the van was the suspect, identified as Guy McDonald, 49, and a female passenger.

Officials said McDonald got out of the van and after refusing to follow the deputy's orders to stand down several times, the deputy opened fire, striking McDonald once.

McDonald was treated for non-life threatening injuries and is now in custody.

The female passenger was also transported to the hospital for conditions unrelated to the incident. Officials have not released her identity.

Guy McDonald was shot by a Hillsborough deputy Wednesday morning.

Second deputy-involved shooting in Tampa

The second shooting occurred just outside of Tampa  in the 5300 block of Brushy Creek Drive around 10:30 p.m.

Officials said a deputy was on routine patrol when he noticed a suspicious person walking along the street. Officials said the deputy followed the person for a short distance, then got out of his cruiser and approached the man.

"At that time, that subject turned around and started approaching the deputy aggressively. The deputy gave him several commands to step back and get back. The subject continued advancing aggressively on the deputy and pulled a weapon out of his bag. At that time, the deputy, who was in fear for his life, fired his weapon several times, striking the subject," Col. Donna Lusczynski said.

Officials said the weapon ended up being a screwdriver. The suspect, Babak Payrow, 35, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Officials said both suspects have violent criminal records and more charges are expected to be added to their histories.

Babak Payrow was shot by a Hillsborough deputy Wednesday night.
