  • Food for Florida event going on in Pasco County
  • Event running Sunday, Monday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Food for Florida is set up through the Department of Families and offers assistance to families impacted by Hurricane Irma.

The event is being held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds in Dade City.

In order to qualify for assistance, you have to live in one of the counties affected by Hurricane Irma and not currently receiving snap benefits.

The event was originally scheduled for Oct. 22 at the Land O' Lakes recreation center. Hundreds of people had shown up that day, unaware of the rescheduling.

Now, families can finally get the assistance they've been waiting for.

Long lines are expected at today's event as well as traffic congestion in the area.
