This week's Everyday Hero has put in countless hours in the field of health and wellness education, and she has no plans of slowing down.

For Kristine Berry, Tampa General Hospital is just one of the stops she makes in her world of volunteerism.

"I volunteer with the transplant department as well as diabetes education, health and wellness, and sometimes I assist in different fundraising activities," Berry said.

While she doesn't keep count, Everyday Hero host Bill Murphy learned that she has passed 3,000 service hours.

"I just enjoy being here and being able to give back," Berry said. "I've received so much that I don't pay attention really to hours. It just adds up."

Her volunteer work also includes countless hours as a board member with NOTE, the national organization for transplant awareness.

In 2006, she had a kidney and pancreas transplant at Tampa General Hospital and months after, due to complications, received another pancreas.

Berry is now something of a transplant goodwill ambassador here, talking with transplant patients and sharing her success story.

She also shares her story and the importance of organ donation with many groups. And for her volunteer work, she received NOTE's volunteer of the year honor.

She was even volunteering back in her high school days.

"I wore a red and white striped jumper with a white shirt underneath, and I was part of the transport team bringing patients through the hospital," Berry said.

Berry is also a breast cancer survivor, and the day she beat that she celebrated with a cake and with her sister. In 2002, she also had to deal for a time with complete blindness.

But she has no time for self-pity and is someone who knows no end to giving back.

And someone who truly appreciates the gift of life and and plans to celebrate it for years to come.
