The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a Highlands County School bus.

A bus was struck in the rear by a semi-truck on US 27 and Lake Placid Drive just before 8 a.m. Wednesday. 

The School Board of Highlands County tweeted info of the accident involving a Lake Placid school bus Wednesday morning. Officials said Bus 177 was involved in the accident and that parents can go to the Winn-Dixie parking lot in Lake Placid to pick up their students. 

School officials also reported there were some injuries but no fatalities. Thirty nine students were on the bus, according to FHP, and two students were flown to Tampa General with serious injuries. 

According to Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Lake Placid, the hospital is received several patients from the bus crash. They said they received six patients, including the bus driver, all with non-life threatening injuries. 

No information on what caused the crash has been released.
