A pursuit played out in an otherwise quiet Hillsborough County community.

  • Pursuit plays out through Dover swamp; two suspects in custody
  • Jonathan Lozada, 19, and 21-year-old Thomas Nolasco arrest
  • One dog suffered gunshot wound, no other injuries

Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies apprehended two suspects in Dover but not until a car chase, a foot pursuit, K9s tracking the suspects into a swamp and gunshots fired.

When it was over, Jonathan Lozada, 19, and 21-year-old Thomas Nolasco, both of Plant City, were under arrest.

Officials said a deputy was routine patrol late Thursday afternoon when he spotted a stolen car with two men inside. They took off but ditched the car and then ran off on foot.

Authorities said the suspects were running through backyards and jumping fences. At one point, one of the suspects fired a gunshot that struck a dog as they ran through a backyard.

Eventually, the suspects tried to hide in a swamp but the dogs were able to wade into the water and track down the suspects.

The suspects have been charged with grand theft auto and resisting arrest.

Lozada was also wanted on eight outstanding charges for robbery, aggravated battery and weapons charges.

The only injury during the pursuit was to the homeowner's dog, which had to be taken to a vet's office for surgery.
