It may not feel like it in the Bay area, but Thursday is the first day of winter.

And it also is a busy day for holiday travel.

Which means things could get stressful for travelers hitting the roads or taking a flight.

For fliers, they may not want to hear that both Tampa and Orlando airports rank among the Top 20 nationwide for cancellations.

Insure my trip, a travel insurance company, conducted research and used it to rank airports based on the likelihood of a canceled flight.

Tampa came in at no. 19 while Orlando ranked eighth among airport cancellations. Both airports are reporting busier holiday travel seasons this year.

And while cancellations are always a possibility while traveling, insure my trip cites weather as the most common reason for flight disruptions.

But there are some things that travelers can control, most importantly, being prepared before you get to the airport.

The Transportation Safety Board has new security procedures in place this year: any electronics larger than a cell phone must be removed from carry on bags and placed in a separate bin at screening.

Also, you can not bring more than three ounces of any liquids on board.

As always, check the status of your flight before heading to the airport, arrive at least 90 minutes prior to your flight.
