Parking meter kiosks are covered in Christmas wrapping bags in Dunedin, signaling an end to parking meters downtown.

  • City leaders voted Thursday to end trial run
  • Business owners said the meters were hurting business
  • Measure will be discussed again in January

City commissioners voted on Thursday to end the trial run after fielding complaints from residents and business owners that the measure was inconvenient and bad for business.

"I'm not going to open it this year," Jason Seibert said of the wrapping over the meter outside Flanagan's Pub in downtown Dunedin. He is the restaurant's owner.

"I think I'm just going to leave it wrapped for as long as possible," he said.

Seibert said since the parking meters have been covered, business has improved.

"So far what we've seen is an increase in business for lunch, which means a lot more people are in here," Seibert said.

Commissioners plan to decided whether to permanently remove the parking meters in January.
