Citrus County deputies say a family dispute turned violent in Crystal River on Tuesday.

  • Connor Rypl took his stepfather's truck, deputies say
  • According to deputies, when he returned he was visibly intoxicated
  • A fight ensued between the men, and Rypl grabbed a kitchen knife

According to reports, 19-year-old Connor Rypl chased his stepfather around his home with a kitchen knife following a verbal dispute outside.

Deputies believe the trouble started when Rypl took a work truck belonging to his stepfather, Scott Kelley, without permission.

When he returned a short time later, authorities say Rypl was visibly intoxicated and behaved aggressively. The men argued outside, along with another man, Casey Kelley, before bringing their disagreement indoors.

The situation escalated from there.

Rypl reportedly busted through a pair of glass French doors before grabbing a kitchen knife. Deputies say Kelley, fearing for his safety, barricaded himself in the home’s master bedroom. Rypl reportedly slashed at the door and “body slammed the door with his shoulder.”

When first responders arrived, they say they found Rypl blooded, visibly agitated and “very intoxicated.”

He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, as well as one count of criminal mischief.

Rypl's mother was also home, according to reports, as was his 6-year-old sister.
