Winter continues during January, and usually January can feature fairly wide swings in the weather. As cold fronts move through, they bring storms and cold temperatures, followed by a return to warmth.

A typical January would see this process occur several times.

Because we only saw two really good cold fronts, January averaged above average temperature-wise and most locations had below average rainfall.

Here is a look at the numbers from January:

Tampa
Average Temperature 66.3 (5.5 degrees above average)
Rainfall 0.90 (1.33 inches below average)

Lakeland
Average Temperature 65.5 (4.8 degrees above average)
Rainfall 2.81 (0.17 inches above average)

Bradenton
Average Temperature 64.7 (3.3 degrees above average)
Rainfall 1.70 (0.79 inches below average)

St. Petersburg
Average Temperature 65.3 (3.7 degrees above average)
Rainfall 0.68 (1.89 inches below average)

Now as we venture in February and get closer to the spring season, we can start to see some warmer weather -- especially by the end of the month. Rainfall generally is really lacking during February.
