  • Fire destroys 2-story Hernando Beach home
  • Neighbor awoken by barking dog, reported fire
  • No one home during fire; cause unknown

Hernando County Fire Rescue responded to a home on Minnow Creek Drive at about 11 p.m. after getting reports of a fire.

A neighbor was awoken by his dog barking and noticed the house next door was engulfed in flames.

Initial reports stated that the two-story home had heavy fire coming from the windows and roof. Due to the intensity of the fire, crews said they had to deploy a hose line to protect the house to the right.

As crews worked to get the fire under control, the house collapsed but did not cause any damage to the surrounding homes.

The power company had to be called out to deactivate a downed power line before fire crews could get the fire under control.

Officials said the home was not occupied at the time of the fire and that the cause of the fire has not been determined yet.
