A Tampa man has been charged with DUI after police said he hit and killed a pedestrain Friday morning. 

According to police, a 50-year-old man was attempting to cross Gandy Boulevard near the intersection of South Dale Mabry Highway just after 1 a.m. when he was hit by a pickup truck, driven by David Franklin.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Franklin was taken into custody for DUI. 

Police said the victim did not have any identification on him so they have not been able to identify him. 

Gandy Boulevard was briefly closed following the crash. 

The crash remains under investigation.
