A used car salesman in the Bay area got creative when he placed an ad to sell a car. In the ad he pointed out the good, the bad and put an emphasis on the ugly.

  • Local used car salesman posts brutally honest ad on Facebook
  • Post goes viral, and business booms

In a Craigslist ad and the Facebook post, Journee Autos Car salesman Shelmar Roseman gave the ugly truth about exactly what the buyer would be getting.

The ad starts out describing the car:

Nothing special or pretty about this car. 200k miles. Rust on the side. I even zoomed in on the rust so you can see it.

And he didn’t stop there.

It will get you from A to B just don’t try to make it to C and don’t bring it back to me.

The post advertised the bells and whistles on the car and warned buyers not to be surprised when they come to hand over the non-negotiable $900 cash offer for the clunker.

This car has 200K plus miles. You [...] right you gone find something wrong with it. But as for now, it cranks, it drives blows cold [...] air and it won’t leave your pockets bare

After hearing that would you buy the car? Well someone did.

Roseman says they got a buyer the very next day.

“We test drove it to her house,” he said. “She had to get her ID and it was pretty much a done deal. Every light was on in the car. So she couldn’t bring it back for a new light because there was no new lights to come on. It was as is. You’re taking it with all these lights, taking it with the rust. Don’t come back for nothing.”

The ad says there’s 'no wiggle room,' but Roseman admitted the car was sold at a lesser price, but wouldn't reveal the exact amount -- only that it was significantly less than it was advertised for.

He also said the dealership now wants to buy that car back to use as advertisement of course.

Not that they need it with all of the attention the post brought in. Monday night the post had 30,000 shares and more than 22,000 comments on Facebook.

Roseman said his clever words may have helped, but it’s his honesty that has the dealership’s phone ringing off the hook now. Since the ad went up Roseman said they have gotten offers from people willing to pay double the price for the car.

No word yet if the buyer is willing to sell the car back.
