One person was killed and eight were injured in a vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Oldsmar.

The crash occurred around 1 a.m. at Curlew Road and McMullen Booth Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. They said one vehicle overturned and the other caught fire.

Here is video from the scene from Tampa Bay Video Service.

Troopers said a Dodge Caliber was traveling southbound on McMullen Booth Rd. when the driver, Donavan Patterson, 18, failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Curlew Rd.

The Caliber collided with a Ford F150 that was traveling eastbound on Curlew Rd. and turning left onto McMullen Booth Rd.

Troopers said one person died in the accident and eight were transported to local hospitals - with multiple trauma alerts and multiple air transports.

Patterson received serious injuries and four of his passengers -- Kianna Diaz, 15, Jayla Simpson, 15, Caleb Lindsay, 20, and Paul Schirmer, 17 -- are in critical condition. A fifth passenger, Jocelyn Schirmer, 18, was killed in the accident.

Paul Schirmer and Jocelyn Schrimer are siblings. Schrimer's grandmother and sister spoke out about the accident this morning.

"It’s hard. It’s impossible. It’s unbelievable. It’s very difficult,” Grimalde Andrade, Schirmer’s grandmother said. “The message is be careful. It’s your life. You can go today and never come back."

"I was just sitting there waiting thinking she was going to come home soon,” Schrimer’s sister, Jacquelyn Schrimer, said. “That’s how I still feel right now."

The driver of the truck, Dalton Cox, 22, received serious injuries. His two passengers, Megan Bortolis, 21, and Victoria Rowe, 23, received minor injuries.

According to FHP, alcohol was related to both drivers and charges are pending.

The intersection of Curlew and McMullen was shut down for several hours during the morning. Traffic opened back up at 6:35 a.m.
