A small plane crashed near Peter O. Knight Airport on Sunday, Tampa Police said.
During takeoff, the plane lost power and landed in the water off Davis Islands.
The pilot, who was the only occupant, exited the plane uninjured before it submerged.
Police marine units and divers assited with the recovery of the plane.
The plane will be transported to and stored at Peter O. Knight Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration will conduct the crash investigation.
