A woman was shot Saturday after her fiancée’s handgun accidentally discharged, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

  • Woman shot in the thigh while driving
  • Her fiancé reached for gun which accidentally discharged
  • She was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries

The incident happened near the intersection of Pasadena Avenue South and Park Street in Pasadena about 10:30 p.m.

Deputies said that Logan D. McClain, 29, was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by Mareth Reum, 28.

The couple was near their residence when McClain, a firefighter and paramedic in Tampa, retrieved his gun from the truck’s center console.

The gun accidentally discharged and a bullet struck Reum in the right thigh while she was driving, deputies said.

McCain rendered aid to Reum and placed her in the backseat of the pickup truck.

As McCain drove toward a hospital, he was stopped by a St. Petersburg Police officer.

An ambulance transported Reum to Bayfront Medical Center, where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office said McClain has a valid concealed carry permit.

Foul play is not suspected in the shooting, deputies said.

The investigation is ongoing.
