Tampa Fire Rescue is investigating another fire at Ybor Resort and Spa for the second Saturday in a row.

Last Saturday, March 11, crews were called out to 1512 E 8th Ave. for a structure fire. Fire crews said heavy smoke and flames were coming from the roof of the building.

Investigators quickly ruled last week’s fire arson. They said a person or multiple people illegally entered the building and set fire at multiple points throughout the building.

Officials said an estimated $100,000 in damages were caused by the fire.

This morning, crews battled another 3-alarm fire at the same location. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control around 7 a.m. but not without diffculty.

"Especially when you consider the age of the building, the heavy timbers burning inside the building and the maze that's created by this architectural design of the building. Ane even more so when there's been a previous fire in the building and there are safety concerns as well," said Fire Chief Tom Forward.

Danny Alberdi who owns the building next door said they got lucky with last week's fire, but not this time.

"They said they had to break into our building to put the fire out," said Alberdi. "They aren't sure if it's out yet, but there's going to be water and smoke damage."

Anyone with information on these two crimes are asked to call the Fire Marshal’s Office at (813) 274-7000.
