- Fire breaks out overnight at structure near downtown Tampa
- Wood framed house burned quickly, fire crews said
- Stretch of Kennedy Boulevard briefly closed overnight
According to Tampa Fire Rescue, flames broke out at a structure in the 100 block of South Willow Avenue just after midnight.
The older, wood frame building, formerly used as a law office, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The structure's venting allowed the fire to move quickly upward, burning throughout the house.
Crews said the vacant house burned quickly despite a fire station being located just a few blocks from the scene. The fast-moving flames were put out after a few hours.
Tampa police closed a stretch of Kennedy Boulevard near the fire scene for a few hours while firefighters dealt with the fire. Kennedy Boulevard was reopened to traffic around 4 a.m.
There were no injuries reported.
The fire is under investigation.
