Car crash knocks out power in Winter Haven

Several Duke Energy customers in Winter Haven lost power Friday morning after a car crashed into a power pole around 2:40 a.m.

Police said a driver hit a power pole at 3^rd St. N.W. and S Lake Silver Dr. Friday morning and fled the scene.

Officials are asking drivers who usually take Lake Silver Dr. between Hwy 17 and First St. to find alternate routes.

Duke Energy had reported 18 customers are affected by the power outage.

Officials said power is likely to be out for 6 - 8 hours.
